Parvovirus B19 is the causative agent of Fifth disease (Erythema infectiosum) which usually produces a mild illness. The virus is also associated with Hydrops fetalis, Aplastic crises and Arthralgia. Detection of IgM antibodies indicates recent infection whereas IgG antibodies indicate past infection or immunity.
