The high replication rate of HIV 1 coupled with its rapid mutation rate leads to accumulation of mutations, some of which reduce susceptibility to antiretroviral agents. Genotyping helps in identifying the mutations associated with resistance and guiding initiation or change of Anti HIV 1 treatment regimens.
